AALI undertakes direct case intervention in 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh, 15 districts of Jharkhand and 2 districts of Uttarakhand. Our focus is on facilitating access to justice in cases of violence against women and children namely facilitating women in asserting their right to choice in marriage, against crimes in the name of protecting the so-called “honour”, domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment at workplace, child marriage, matrimonial disputes, human trafficking, witch-hunting, etc. Case intervention comprises case in-take and socio-legal counseling, follow-up with victim/survivor and on legal proceedings, fact-findings, social mediation, support through police procedures, judicial and quasi-judicial processes like cases at courts, accessing social security entitlements, rehabilitative schemes, etc. and facilitating access to support services like emergency safe shelter, medico-legal aid, psychological counseling, survivor network, employment opportunities etc. AALI extends these services free of cost to women and children, especially those from marginalized communities. Cost of each case is different and based on the needs and situation of victim/survivor, but may include: case related travel (safe space for victim/survivor, visit to police station, court, hospital, government departments, etc.), home visits, emergency support of food and basic amenities for victim/survivor, documentation and filing costs in court, medical expenses, fees for external consultants, etc. Support socio-legal intervention for a woman or child victim/survivor of violence. Costs per case intervention in a year ranges from: Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 2,00,000.
